Gate City Jr. League Girls Softball

Has anyone seen the girls 13-14 softball at GC play yet? And who is coaching this year?

I did get to watch them the other day when they played BSG, they did good the 1st game won big but they lost the 2nd game by 1 run and it was 2 errors on the infield that costed them that game. After they get all of the players from varsity and they get everybody where they should be playing they will be pretty solid. The same coaches that coached the girls a few years ago are coaching this year..its a couple of the parents for the girls.

What grade or grades are they in ?

8'th and 9'th grades I bielieve they have three that are currently on Varsity

The Junior league team consist of all 8th and 9th graders this year...but they have 1 7th grader. If they ever get everybody together and get to play some games, they should be strong.

Aren't Grills, Horner, and Burke rising sophomores and the rest rising freshman? Byrd will be an 8th grader?

You are correct, but Grills, Burke and Horner all fall under the new league rules, of not turning 15 before Dec. 31'st. If they can keep this team together they should be strong. In a couple of years this will probably be one of the best "all around" teams that varisty has seen in a while.

I agree with you..they will be a strong team. I talked to one of the parents last night at the game and they said that they are playing one of the Bristol teams Monday night at the Little League efield, could be a good game.

Something else you may want to think about, Horner and Burke may move on to basketball. The varsity and jv are having summer workouts and playing tourment games every day. They play at UVA Wise or Emory next week. Some girls may try to do both.

I guess the coach knows that. But, still they will be a strong team.
